Kelly Hayes

Katy Orthwein
Kelly Hayes, who has been called a "subtle frenzy" by The Martha's Vineyard Times and a "flaming poppy" by The New York Times is co-Artistic Director, with collaborator Katy Orthwein, of RedShift Dance. She grew up outside of Chicago, Illinois, and earned a BFA in Dance from the University of Iowa in 1997.

Kelly's choreography has been presented by Dance New Amsterdam, Evon Arts, Soundance, Mulberry St. Theatre, the Limon Institute, the Yard, Peridance, p(art)ies and Chashama, as well as at venues in Chicago, Atlanta and Athens, Georgia. Her solo, Slip is currently in the repertoires of Zoetic Dance (Atlanta) and Midwest Dance Collective (Chicago). Kelly has also created two commissioned works for Midwest Dance Collective: on and on and on and on, and Barbie-Q. Her choreography for theater includes: As You Like It for the Stonington Opera House in Maine (director: Jeffrey Frace) and Measure for Measure for blessed unrest in New York (director: Jessica Burr).

Kelly currently dances with Dixie Fun Dance Theatre, Jody Sperling Time Lapse Dance and Carrie Ahern. She has also recently performed in the cast of Conni's Avant Garde Restaurant and with Kendall Cornell's Soon To Be World Famous Women's Clown Troupe. Past credits include Darrah Carr Dance, Sun Ho Kim and Dancers, Tony Silva Dance and Music, Chicago's Zephyr Dance, City Ballet Theatre of Milwaukee and Dayton Contemporary Dance Company II. She has also had the privilege of creating and performing at the Yard residency on Martha's Vineyard in 2002.

In addition, Kelly teaches dance to students ages 2 1/2 - professional levels at Peridance, The Ailey School, The Soundance Studio, The Stamford Performing Arts Center and through master classes nationally. She has taught master classes at Zoetic Dance, Brenau University, Agnes Scott College, Youth Dance Chicago, Art of Dance and Applause National Talent Presentations.

  Katy Orthwein is a choreographer and dancer based in New York City. She is the co-Artistic Director of RedShift Dance with Kelly Hayes. Her collaborations with Kelly have been shown in Georgia, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Virginia and throughout New York City. Katy's solo work Overexposed has been selected to be a part of Joyce SoHo Presents, where she will perform it in May, and by Studio 303 in Montreal, where she will perform in the fall of 2007.

Katy grew up in Chicago, IL and Amherst, WI. She graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in Dance from the Ohio State University in 1999. Katy has also studied dance at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and Middlebury College. Katy was a member of the University Dance Company at Ohio State University, performing in works by Tere O'Connor, Susan Hadley, Joe Chavala and Kristina Isabelle, among others. Katy was a recipient of the Vicki Blaine Scholarship for Choreography at OSU. Her choreography was shown at OSU and Middlebury College.

Katy is also a licensed massage therapist in New York State and has a private practice. She holds an Associate Degree in Occupational Studies from the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences where she was awarded the Patricia J. Eckhardt Memorial Scholarship.

In New York City, Katy has danced for Dixie Fun Dance Theatre, jill sigman/thinkdance, Pele Bauch, Lisa Gonzales and Elizabeth Solomon. Katy has been a technical and rehearsal assistant for Dixie Fun Dance Theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and the MilanOltre and Civitanova Danza festivals in Italy. She was also the project assistant for jill sigman/thinkdance in Rupture: Phase II at Takt Kunstprojektraum in Berlin. Katy currently studies ballet with Christine Wright.
